Issues with 4s ipod

For the past several days that I have had my iphone 4s, I have attempted to use the ipod on my phone while driving not sure why it is not working? Any suggestions? Anyone else having the same issue?

Does that mean play a song, open the app?...

The 4s doesn't have a iPod. It has a "music".

Yes, play a song...typically songs would just start playing once I switched my car from AM/FM to 'accessory' mode but when my 4s is plugged in no music will play. It worked on my iphone 4.
