Hi all,
I recently bought a Build to Order Early '11 MacBook Pro (ahh yeah!), but recently when it has been waking from sleep the backlight just doesn't wake with the rest of the computer. Everything is on but the backlight. If viewed from the right angle you can see that the display itself it on. So what I have to do is press F1 (dims the backlight usually) which returns everything to normal. Why would this be happening? It only usually happens after I've been using it for a while and then closing it for about 5 minutes. Doesn't seem to be a hardware issue.
Any thoughts or solutions?

Thanks in advance :)

Have you attempted to reset the parameter RAM (also known as "PRAM")? To reset your MacBook Pro's parameter RAM:

  1. Turn your MacBook Pro off.
  2. Press the power button to turn your MacBook Pro on.
  3. Hold down Command-Option-P+R until you hear the computer chime twice.

I can't really say when it works unless it happens again, but thanks for your help.

This is off subject from the original post but what is PRAM usually used for? I'm interested :)

Taken from the Apple Support website:

  • Display and video settings such as refresh rate, screen resolution, number of colors
  • Startup volume choice
  • Speaker volume
  • Recent kernel panic information, if any
  • DVD region setting
Note: Mac OS X stores your preselected DVD region choice in PRAM for easy access. Resetting PRAM does not allow you to change the DVD region.
For more information on what information is stored in the parameter RAM, please see http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1242.
