I posted this on both the a Google and Apple support forums but they have been largely unhelpful in addressing my concern. I'm posting this here in the hope that some of you can provide me with insights into this issue.

I was planning on keeping a backup of my photo library on Google Photos, but noticed many of the photos in my photo library had the wrong dates (from camera errors etc). I changed these using the Adjust Date and Time feature on Photos for Mac, but when I subsequently uploaded these images to these other software (Google Photos using the desktop uploader and Shutterfly), it used the incorrect original date instead of my modified one. Is there any way to fix this so that future images are taken from Photos with the modified date? I'm also wondering whether it's an issue on Google or Apple's end.

As a side note, using the export photos feature, then uploading it to these services but when they take the photo from the Media viewer or through other programs (eg Google desktop uploader), this is where these issues seem to exist, making me think if it's an error it's on Apple's side.
