Issues with external monitor and rMBP

Hi,

For a while I was having no trouble using my rMBP with my HP w2338h and HP 2310m monitors but now I'm having issues with the 2338. When I plug the rMBP into it, the monitor just goes to sleep and does not detect any input. This happens in clamshell mode and when the macbook is open. When it is open, the screen on the macbook flashes blue a few times but doesn't do anything. I have the macbook plugged into a power source. I am using a VGA to thunderbolt adapter with it. For some reason I have no problems with the 2310, this is just on the 2338. I'm on OSX 10.8.2.

Try a MiniDP to DVI adaptor->DVI cable? Perhaps it's challenging to do 1080p on VGA. You could try the HDMI port too if the HP monitor has it.
