So my wife and I both have iHome Alarm clocks, one of the older models with two recharging slots. Before the iPhone 4S I had ZERO issues with charging however now something else odd...

On my iHome with my iPhone 4S my phone only works in both slots IF I position it in a "sweet" spot. By this I mean I literally have to have the phone at the right angle for it to charge and work, too far back or forward and the phone won't register charge.

Now on my Wife's iHome my phone simply refuses to register or charge. My wife can take her iPhone 4S and use it normally on my iHome without issues.

Now I was thinking the charging port on my new phone is broke or something else but a standard charging cable works without issues.

Thoughts?

I have an iHome IP9, single slot, and just received an iPhone 4 insert (previously had 3GS), and I noticed the same thing; I placed my 4S in the slot and although it seemed to seat securely, in the morning I noticed it had not charged. The phone's charge level was the same as the night before.

Any tips for finding the "sweet spot?"

I reached out to SPECK the maker of the Case for the phone and I was able to determine the issue was with the case being slightly thick on the bottom preventing good contact to the 30pin connector. I didn't want to toss my alarm clock so I bought one of these http://www.amazon.com/RadTech-ProCable-Extender-19-Inch-iPhones/dp/B002V0SSC4 which allowed the dock to work and fit into the bottom of the case perfectly. I got a 3ft model so I can lay in bed and charge the phone with plenty of room.

Thank you! :D

I have the iHome IP9 clock. I have a SPECK candy-shell case for my iPhone 4S and I've had trouble with the alarm going off. It just blinks the alarm on the screen but doesn't play my playlist or beep. I've been late to work twice! bad news! I'm going to purchase a cable or something like this http://www.sendstation.com/us/products/dockextender/

I'm glad it's not my alarm clock, because I like it and I don't need to go spend another $99 on a new clock radio. Ridiculously expensive  if you ask me..

Being in a hurry when I bought my iPhone 4S, I also bought the Speck case but do not use it (but do have a screen protector). I got the iPhone 4 adapter for my iHome IP9, where my 4S recharges over night and I can hear it ring.

The ways I carry my iPhone when away from home minimizes risk associated with it not being in a case. So this configuration works for me.
