I have a Early 2011 Macbook pro.. I am having issues with how slow it is and battery gets really hot.

I changed to an SSD HD about a year ago. i want to know if i restart my Macbook Pro factor settings will it run smoother?

Are you aware that these are ticking time bombs? The GPUs all die.

That's impossible to answer without knowing more about the kinds of slowdowns you're seeing. We have no way of diagnosing what is causing your slowdowns, and therefore no way of concluding what can be done to fix it.

would it hurt if i restarted my laptop? I just feel like it take a while to start up and open up programs

Why would that hurt?

Here are a few questions

What SSD did you install and is it plugged into the SATA connection or did you put it in the optical slot?
How much RAM do you have?
What does Activity Monitor show in respectively RAM, Disk, RAM, and Energy?
What are your load averages? (To see this type "uptime" in Terminal and hit enter)
What OS are you on?
What file system is on your SSD?
Is the SSD one that macOS sends TRIM commands to?
Has the slowdowns started recently?
What apps are you usually running?

Only the Macbook Pros with discrete GPUs suffer from the eventual GPU death. I scanned this thread a few times and did not see whether the OP specified that he had the iGPU ones or the ones with also a dGPU. None of the 13" Macbook Pros of the 2011-era suffered from GPU deaths.

That's true - I was just making an assumption there. But you're right it was an unwarranted assumption

Is the battery swelling or not looking right?? If so take it out now before it bursts and destroys your laptop and is a fire hazard, if it’s getting a hot battery also take it out, if the battery isn’t working very well this may slow it down, heat may cause throttling. Give it a good clean out of dust while you are in there and order a new battery.

If it’s a 15 inch machine don’t bother with trying to fix it as others say it’s a time bomb that will fail anyway, start looking for a new computer.
