I am running High Sierra and every now and then the remote adjusts my MacBooks sound and I continually have to disable it and enable it in system prefs to stop this behavior. The remote is paired but this does not seem to fix the problem. I DO NOT want to have a buy a new Apple TV over this, as my ATV 3 works fine for my needs. I am not buying a 4K TV and have no need for the latest Apple TV's, so does anyone have any suggests on how to fix this odd behavior? Yesterday I got it to STOP adjusting my Mac's sounds nd you watch a week later it will start playing with my Macs sound again. Its tiresome....

pairing only causes the receiver to listen to certain remotes.
it does nothing to the remote to prevent the remote from controlling other devices.

an un-paired receiver will listen to any remote.

each remote has a code (0 to 255). For example, when you hit a button it sends "play 45"
pairing a remote tells the receiver to only listen to remotes that match the code it was paired with.
so it's more about "coding" the receiver than the remote.

since there are only a few codes for the massive number of remotes, there are many duplicates.
if you do wind up with 2 of the same code, and need to change it, push 'Menu & Play/Pause' for 5 seconds

I also seem to remember that it changes the code every time you pair, but i'm not sure.

if you don't need the remote on the mac, just turn off the receiver.
if you do use it, pair it with the other remote.
