Hi all,

I have a very frustrating/annoying problem that I've been dealing with for weeks now. Whenever I try restarting my Macbook (specs in signature) for whatever reason (usually it's because my external hard drive spontaneously ejects and will not be recognized unless I restart or Finder crashes and cannot be re-opened unless I restart), my computer will hang on the gray screen right before the Apple logo appears and will just sit there for hours (if I let it) not doing anything. It usually takes 4-5 more restarts (by pressing the power button) before the Apple logo actually appears and it restarts normally, but lately it's been getting worse- just yesterday I was forced to restart because of my hard drive and it took 14 restarts before it finally worked. This is unbelievably frustrating and worrisome at the same time.

What is the issue? The infamous white question mark that points to a hard drive failure doesn't appear so it can't be an issue with my internal drive, could it? At the moment, Finder has crashed and I can't re-open it without a restart, and my clock and all other functions in the upper right hand corner are frozen as well, including Spotlight. I'm stuck.

Help me?! Thanks!
