istat and macs fan control in automatic mode

I have my MBP 2011 reflown to fix the infamous GPU problem, works so far.

I now want to only monitor the inside temps, without interfering with OSX automatic fan control.

If I put istat or macs fan control in automatic mode, does it mean that OSX automatic control is used ? or that istat/macsfan use their own "automatic" control scheme ?
