I've been exploring iStat Menus and I'm thinking of buying it, but there appears to be something similar called iStatistica Pro that gets much better reviews in the MacOS App Store. Granted, it appears that iStat Menus has a shorter history in the MacOS App Store and lots of the disgruntled reviews are mostly because they launched a new version that's been unstable.

Anyone have experience with both or have advice on which way to go? I'm not looking to do any massive number crunching. I just want something powerful, but easy to understand that will help me see what's going on under the hood so I can get the most out of my new M4 Pro.

I seem to be having some battery management issues that I suspect are related to software bugs. Just in case those don't get resolved soon, I want something that'll help me figure out how to not set my battery on fire every time I unplug.

Evidently, I own iStatistica Pro, I don't remember buying it, but I had the little download icon instead of the buy.

Anyways after re-downloading it, I see the major difference between iStats Menu is iStatistica is that one displays the information on the menubar and the other as an app. Also istats seems to have more options and metrics to measure.

The MAS reviews seem particularly harsh and the theme is that its quite buggy. I think since then Bjango has updated the app. Speaking of updates, it seems that the last update to iStats is last Feburary, not sure if that's indicative of anything.

Personally, I prefer iStats Menus simply because I can choose what sensors to show on the menu bar, instead of having an app open (or need to open it) and then have that window cluttering up my area. As I type this post, I remember now that was my original complaint with iStatistica. Its a fine app, looks great, does everything its advertised to do, but I prefer seeing that information on the menu bar

I'm going to buy istats 7.0 (I had owned version 5.0, but skipped version 6.0), and I'm going to buy it directly from bjango instead of the MAS, partly so the developer gets 100% of money and partly because you generally get a more fully functioning app. Many of these utility type apps on the MAS have restrictions on how/what they can do, where as buying directly, you have full access. Not sure if this applicable to iStats but for me, I'll just go directly to the developer.
