istat pro / istat menu and widgets

Hello I'm new to macs, and I wanted to know the difference between istat pro and istat menu. I am aware that istat menu is a paid application but are there any difference? istat pro is a widget, not an application right?

I also started using widgets (didn't know I could dl more from the apple site) but how often do youguys use widgets over regular applications? what is the difference?

Yes, iStat Pro is a free widget, which runs in Dashboard. iStat Menus is an application that runs like any other app. iStat Menus has some features not found in iStat Pro. You can visit their sites and see the capabilities of each.

iStat Pro/Nano = A Dashboard widget
iStat Menus = An application which runs in the Menu bar

Widgets are just small apps found in Dashboard but with a hack, they can be moved to desktop as well. I use iStat Pro because I have no need to see my temps 24/7 and it's free

Scratch that. My mistake. I forgot I had installed iStat Menus a long time ago. That's how it got there.
