Hi all,

I installed the free gadget iStatPro and unfortunately I noticed that for some reason it keeps a connection open to a server at Bjango.com.

Does anybody know why it does this and/or what data is being transferred?

Can gadgets be used to spy on people? What security is there to prevent the authors of iStatPro from hacking into my computer? I ask because I've also noticed that ssh-agent occasionally runs but not always.

Also, where is gadget code stored in the file system and what language(s) are they generally written in?

Thanks.

This is probably for their non-free monitoring app for the iPhone.

No, the program that is acting like spyware is iStatPro, which I installed on my MBP.
I don't even own an iPhone.

It's probably checking for updates. Almost every program allows for automatic checking for updates these days, including OS X.

I was going to say the same thing.

You should check to see if you have "check for updates" turned on.

I was thinking the same thing, except the OP said "it keeps a connection open". There is no reason to do that for an action that should occur occasionally. I'd consider that broken.
