I've seen threads with similar problems but not regarding the iPhone.

I can pair the device ok but if I try and add it as a device in iSync it says it can't connect to the device.

Macbook Pro - 10.6.1
iPhone - 3.0.1
iSync - 3.1.0

Any ideas?

Thats the only way I've every wirelessly synced my iPhone.

Is there a better way?

Through iTunes.

Have you succeeded in syncing your *iPhone* through iSync? I've used it for other phones, but syncing the iPhone is very easily accomplished in iTunes. Far easier than iSync ever was. Yes, you have to plug it in to the USB cable that came with the iPhone, but you're at your computer anyway. Is the goal to leave the iPhone on the desk while you sync?

I have had it working in the past but it was ages ago.

When I get home from work I just put my phone down somewhere and sit down on the sofa with the laptop, I want to be able to wirelessly sync and not have to hunt around for the USB cable all the time.

Something that is easily accomplished with a Nokia for example.

For the life of me, I can't figure out why the cell phone industry can't come up with a common protocol and a certification process so that a syncing program can work with all phones. Just ridiculous...

I've had an iPhone since October 2007 (3 months after the original was released) and I've never been able to sync it using iSync or wirelessly. The only way without jailbreaking your phone is to use a sync cable and iTunes, as far as I'm aware.

There's going to be major reform in the cellular industry soon. It's just starting now, with the FCC's investigations into messaging rates, handset exclusivity and app rejection. We've already got a standard charger coming soon, in a few years we might have some more standards.
