So it looks like I'll be spending more time than I have ever before on my MacBook Pro. I am currently using a 2019 15" base model.

I have no issues with it, but given I will be spending so much time on it, I was wondering if I should upgrade to the 16"

I have used the 16" before, and it is nice. The 16" since when I first used it has probably improved even more.

I would get something for my current laptop, and would consider buying a refurb, so the price difference won't be bad IMO.

If you are having no issues with your current system, why spend more money at all?? The computer is just a tool. Use it until it fails to perform something you want it to and then consider the cost of upgrading. Otherwise you'd be better off saving or investing that money for your future.

If you need more time on your 15-inch, and that concerns you somehow - why not consider a desktop? If a larger screen is now in your thinking, why would it need to be on a laptop?

I had a 16 inch (with 32 gb ram, 8 cores etc ) , swapped it for an m1 pro, which is faster as a daily driver in nearly every regard, while been a look cooler and quieter.

wait 3 months, get the 14 or 16 inch m1x/m2 Macs, much better option. your 2019 is only 2 years old. My work laptop is a 2018 15" and it's fine for day-to-day. liveable.

If you're just doing regular everyday things like I think you'll be, it's not worth the upgrade. If you want to go up to a 16", it only makes sense to wait for the 16" M1's to drop. I test drove a 13" M1 MBP and it was amazing. You'll be glad you waited.

I would recommend waiting for the 16" MBP with the M1 or M2. I am waiting because I spend a lot of time working on my computer and the extra screen size adds a lot in making the experience good.

I’m in the same boat, al be it the 13” to 14” boat. My 2017 MBP is still working (I run out of memory quite often, 8Gb doesn’t cut it for my work) but I am waiting until the new 14” with M1x/M2 processor is released.
And this time I’m going to max it out. No more memory shortage, 32Gb if possible and 2Tb if I have the money.

Well, it seems like the answer to my question is overwhelmingly clear. Basically, it's not worth it (at least until the M version comes out).

I guess I will just keep my 15" then for now. I was thinking the slightly bigger screen might be good but I have used the 16" and I think it's only like .6 inches bigger bc the 15" is actually like 15.4.

Is it noticable? I think most people don't think so. When I had used it, it wasn't the biggest difference. It felt taller but that's about it.

The 15.4" screen is plenty big especially when you are on the internet browser and hit the green button to max it out.

I guess I was just hoping that maybe it has improved since I first tried it in other ways and then maybe now it would be worth the upgrade, but based on feedback I guess not.

I was concerning the same... sometimes the thing about machine as a tool it's not the same for everyone.
Someones says here: I buy a machine when can't handle the work... yeah right, but sometimes there are slightly things going slow and you don't notice.

I was having problems with the internet card of my 2012 non retina... which I maxed out as possible. im architect and use cad all day 16hrs sometimes. the machine works great. yeah... but its a 3er gen I5 and pass all the day with fans running loud. the internet problem was a dongle connect for a mouse, so got fixed but I started to fell the machine was taking time saving files (even with ssd) and I got a preeeety good opportunity for a 16" i9. I pass two weeks thinking about purchase it, even wait for the WWDC and all that and you know what? If you need the machine now, go for it.

I make the decision the day I notice that every time I saved a file, took a few second (sometimes a minute) and I take my iPhone and goes to instagram, or WhatsApp and lost 10 min there. I wasn't getting productive at all.

Everyone was waiting to June and didn't make it. Yeah maybe will came out on October... or December. nobody knows and time goes by. Maybe ones can die any moment and you didn't enjoy your thing because everybody its saying wait for a machine that nobody knows when will came out and maybe you're being unproductive right now whit that machine.

And even on that way, you can sell the machine in two years and probably you will get good money for it. I wast ready to wait two years until all apps for my career were optimizedand dealing with roseta.

And maybe I'm wrong but surely those m1 and maybe m2 will drop actualization at the same time of the very last intel machine. iPhone 1 didn't least 7 years, iPads neither, watch neither. Just with the iPhone 6s, we reach that point of 7 years upgrading.

If you need the machine, no matter if the actual powers on and can print a sheet, if you are a load worker, study your options and go for it. I didn't regret of it.

I'll chime in - with it's not worth it. The 16 has ninth-gen Intel and the 11th gen is out and it is so much better than the 9th gen. If Apple put in the 11th gen i9, it would be worth it. But I seriously doubt that Apple will do that. Apple should upgrade the 16 this year or early next year at the latest. Everyone has waited this long, maybe another six months isn't too much to wait.

I think the only thing I like better about the 16” is the keyboard. Otherwise, the 16” has too many compromises - overheating with external monitor, underpowered integrated GPU, heavier, and thicker.

Wait for this years 16 inch if that’s what you want but doesn’t sound like you need to upgrade.
