So just stop it.

The Macbook Air is called the Macbook Air because it is smaller and lighter then the MacBook Pro.

The iPad Air is named as it is because the regular ipad is still around.. And once again it is lighter and has a smaller profile.

Apple is not going to release a new phone that is both heavier and has a bigger profile then the last model and call it the iphone Air.. That would just be ridiculous.

I agree that with probably 3 different models of phone a new naming scheme might be in order... But air is just a dumb name.

I will probably be the iphone 6 and the iPhone 6 pro. The 5c will probable be updated with 5s internals and remain the 5c or be renamed.. That could actually become the iPhone air.

I hope they just drop the 6 all together. The 2014 iPhone, iPhone pro, & iPhone C (or whatever they call it).

Point being the 4.7 iPhone will not be called the iPhone air.

I agree. It won't be called iPhone Air. However I don't think they are going to update the iPhone 5c. I think they could keep the iPhone 5s and the 5c around and have 4 phones in the lineup, but I don't think the 5c will be updated until the 6s is released.

I also believe they should drop the numbering thing. It's starting to be too much

Apple at least makes some sense with their labeling system. You get the upgraded version of the one before by attaching a letter after it. The next year they bump the number with a new design. Just think of the Samsung Galaxy Tab Active Pro Note 6 or Nokia 2331345664234467.

If they drop the numbering system you'd have to attach a year to the phone so it would be iPhone (late-2014) and iPhone (late-2015). And when you went to buy one at a store, you have to say which model year. It would be best to say iPhone 5c,5s,6 over 2013, 2013, 2014 no? Well, maybe not. They do it with their MacBooks anyway.

Yeah I see what ur saying, but eventually it's going to get weird. iPhone 10? iPhone 10s? If they just dropped the numbers and called it iphone 5.5" or iPhone 4.7" or iPhone C it could work I think. Or they could do the years like with MacBooks. IDK I just think they need to come up with something different soon

I agree. The 5.5" model will be the Mega-iPhone Air Super Plus.

Lol. . . That is funny. Like Samsung can name there devices some weird stuff that's for sure

Hey, it's the choice of wall huggers everywhere! As an aside, I fly a lot, and the people I see "hugging the walls" are mainly laptop users, not phone users.

Indeed. I too think "iPhone Air" is very nice, and that it will be Apple's choice for the upcoming iPhone 6.

I think you could make the case that the "air" logic can be applied thusly: Any device which has achieved a full feature set while also achieving the ultimate thinness in profile.

It will not be called the "iPhone Air"

While I tend to agree, as an opinion, I wouldn't go so far as to say with definitive authority that it is as factual as you make it out to be.

In the end, to me, it matters not what what it's actually named. The important thing is what will it end up being as far as features and sizes.

iPhone 10 = iPhone X

Yes this is true. I never have to charge my iphone going through the airport or on lunch or anything like that, but I do have a wall outlet in my car so I charge it when I'm in my car anyway lol

Yeah I guess that be a cool name, but you could use that name for the 10th generation iphone. However http would be the iPhone 7 right? So iphone 7 will be the tenth generation and the 7a will be he 10th anniversary? See it's already confusing lol j/k, but iPhone X is a cool name with iOS X

I think the smaller 4.7" next gen iPhone will be the "Air," and the larger 5.5" version will be the iPhone 6. :) Sent from my iPad.

I love that one of the "Similar posts" listed below is one that confidently asserts "It will never be called the iPhone 5."

Yeah. I really get tired of the "Apple would never do this" or "Steve Jobs would never have done that" talk. Companies adapt and change and Jobs, rest in peace, is still gone.
