Hi

some things do download but alot wont for example I want to d/l subethaedit and i click the link and nothing happens it just times out, this also happens with game demos.

Xplane wont d/l just a text document opens?

Why?
 
A lot more info would be helpful...

Which browser do you use?
Which operating system do you have?

Why?
The "text document opens with garbage text instead of downloading" problem is easily fixed by Control-clicking (or option-clicking, but only in Safari) the link in question and choosing "Save Link As..." or something similar in the menu that appears. (In Safari, an option-click causes the file linked to to be downloaded to your downloads folder - no dialog or anything. It's too bad that it only works in Safari.) The reason this happens is due either to misconfigured file type associations in your browser (Safari's can't be changed :( ) or misconfigured MIME types on the server you're downloading from (a MIME type is just a cross-platform way of dealing with things like file extensions and type/creator codes that are platform-specific - these serve to associate a file with an application capable of opening it).
