iTMS song on iPod won't play

My iPod will not play my purchased songs when it is disconnected from my computer. It just skips through them .... anybody had any problems similar to this? It is really really irritating and discouraging.
I think this may have started when I updated my iPod to 1.4 in early August.
BTW I have a 1st GEN 10 gig

As long as you have the latest software on your iPod, you should be fine. Double check that you have the latest version. Run software update and see if anything turns up. After that, run a restore on your iPod with the latest iPod utility (whether or not you had to get a new one). Note that this will erase your iPod, so make sure you have a backup of everything that is on it, music included. Then reload your iPod with music and see if it works.
