iPod touch iTouch 4 vs Iphone 4 (different hardware)

Last week I bought for my daughter the new iphone touch, facetime worked like a charm, and processor speeds very similar to my iphone 4, but after comparing the 2 unit (iphone, Itouch) I noticed that the ipod touch lcd display does have retina display but it is more whiteish on dark backgrounds and colors are not as pure compared to my iphone 4, also found that the iphone 4 cameras both front/back took better pictures and performed better in low light conditions than the ones on the ipod touch.

Did apple put cheaper hardware on the new itouch?

Have any of you experience this?

Why didn't you buy her an iPhone if you wanted the same quality?

I wouldn't have bought her an iPt in the first place but that's a different story.

He apparently is surprised by lower quality and doesn't event take the price-difference into account.

I think it's a great idea. My 2yo grandson frequently plays with his father's touch (under supervision, of course). There are all sorts of kid friendly apps. It's quite the educational tool and I just got him a cute accessory for it. It provides protection and has a built-in speaker. It's called a Woogie and is from Griffin Tech. It was only $17 after a discount code (free shipping, no tax).

To answer your question straight-forward, and not use sarcasm like everybody else (except tubemonkey), yes it is lower quality, especially the camera. You should probably buy a nice case, or a Woogie.
 
The iphone has a better camera because it's body is thick enough to accommodate the better (and thicker) sensor...and the touch is too thin for that...so thats why they put the different hardware in touch.
And since the touch is a lot cheaper than the iphone, they put a lower quality screen on it...but its still awesome IMO.

It's too thin because they deliberately made it thin. They could've designed the touch around a better camera and still made it thinner than the iPhone 4; if they wanted to.

It's not too thin. It is as it is. If it would be thicker it wouldn't be the iPt 4G. Maybe it would be the iPhone or the device of your dreams, whatever. However different people, different imaginations.

If they could have designed and they wanted to, they would but they didn't!

Can we just stop this stupid iphone comparisons? Just go to the iPhone-Forum and complain about the price, but don't tell everyone how the iPt should be.
 
seriously, they could have made the iPT4 more like the iphone 4, but then it would be $500-$600.
 
Um, the things iPH 4 does that the iPT 4 does not....

IPS (this is what makes your screen nice to see from extreme angles)

camera... iPhone has a 5MP backlit sensor with built in flash. NICE looking pics.... But iPod has 0.7mp no flash. ok pics. iPH 4 has a better (not "a", better) camera.

Double RAM (512 MB)
Fancy glass enclosure
Noise canceling mic setup (two mics)

SO, thats what the iphone 4 has over the iPod 4...

And I'm not even going to get started on the whole kid with iDevice thing.... Lets just say that have fun lobotomizing your kid!! :D:D

Thats what I also think about the cost difference, The iphone has GPS, GSM, 3G chips plus extra 8gb of storage, 1 extra mic and other hardware that makes it more expensive.

I think putting cheaper hardware on the itouch was not smart. I just returned the itouch and kept the 3rd gen that I already had.

for those wondering about why my 3 year old daughter has an itouch, is because she knows how to use it and there is a lot of good learning apps for kids, she has learned a lot.

I sold my itouch 2g to my sister so her 3 year old daughter can use it. Plenty of apps to help you learn how to read and add and of course the kid shows. I see nothing wrong with it as long as you can afford it.

That woogie looks like an awesome idea. Gonna have to tell my sis about that.
 
Your daughter is a cutie :)

And IMO you did right getting her the new iTouch, whenever you are you will be able to talk with her.
