I have the itouch that i've loaded with all my music and video. its been this way without a problem from the time i got it. but the ipod itself says there is nothing on it. when plugged into itunes it says there is 8 gigs of "other media"

am i going to have to reset the ipod and lose all of the media thats on it?

this happened when i was adding a new song to it.

any help would be great

If all your media is listed as "other" im afraid AFAIK the only thing you can do is restore, this happened to me once and restoring cleared it right up.

Anyway, for the OP, yes, sadly, restoring is the simplest approach for you at this point. See if syncing the whole library (including the potential troublesome new song) works when done in one shot.
