iPod touch iTouch email stuck on Mailboxes?

I have the latest iTouch with latest software (5.1) but recently the MAIL is stuck on the "mailboxes" screen.
I can't seem to get out of this page?,

... everything else on my iTouch seems to be fine
this is my 1st post here and I appreciate any advice
