itouch fm transmitter, sound comes out of speaker

I just got an ipod touch 2nd gen 32gb. when I hook up my fm transmitter, sound only comes out of the little speaker, and not thru the car stereo. do I need to turn something off, like the little speaker, to have the sound come thru the transmitter to the car???? or do I have to buy another transmitter specifically for the itouch.
 
i would assume my transmitter does not work with the touch. I just dont want to buy the 79.99 model from kensington
