We are expats from the U.S. living in Yokhama, Japan. My son has earned enough money to buy an iTouch. Question is whether to buy the iTouch in Japan or from the U.S. and have it shipped over. We will be here at most 3 years. Possibly only 12 months longer. Assuming the firmware is forced regionally, I would rather buy it in the U.S. for future updates. Other devices I own have been firmware locked to the region they were purchased in.
However if the firmware of a JP iTouch can be wiped and updated with US or EU firmware, then we can buy here with confidence. Likely the US firmware updates will come first to address bugs and add new features. Would appreciate your thoughts or comments. Thanks.
