It's Been Too Long...

I used to be all about jailbreaking until my work switched to Sprint. Now I do Android stuff. I am trying to get my iPhone 3gs ready to sell, but the buyer wants it jb and unlocked. Right now it is on 3.1.3 jailbroken. It has the older bootloader as well. So I have read about Jailbreakme.com, which sounds awesome. I wish something like that was around back in the day when I was into this. So I have no problem doing that.

I'm trying to remember how to jump up a couple firmware revs if I need to. Obviously the buyer will want it on 4.0. I actually never got to play around with 4.0. So, since I am jailbroken, can't I just download whichever fw I want (either 4.0, or 4.0.1) and shift + restore it in iTunes?? Then after that I can just rejailbreak and unlock it? Or do I need to use a custom fw?

Also, even with how easy Jailbreakme.com is can I jb with that, and then unlock with ultrasn0w?

How is the easiest way to go about this?

Is you phone still pwned? If yes, best to restore with custom firmware (make your own or google).

If no, you will have to deal with firmware SHSH security checks. Apple only allows you to installed latest firmware, currently only 4.0.2 & 4.1. Thus, did you save older firmware SHSH hashes, Cydia or on computer, for the phone?

Repost X per day. :D

Download and run Tinyumbrella:
1) Make sure you Iphone is detected.
2) check "Advanced Options."
3) In new window, under "Device / Version," select the firmware version you want to downgrade to.
4) Click on "Save my SHSH." Pray Cydia has them. If you don't get an error, it has been saved onto your computer.
5) Repeat to save other firmware hashes if you wish.
6) Now, click on "Display SHSHs." It should listed all hashes you have saved on your computer and the firmware you can downgrade to.
7) Start "TSS server," download firmware file somewhere (google) and restore through iTunes with that file.
8) If you phone get stuck during restore, try "Kick out of recovery..."'in Tinyumbrella.
 
I dont remember if i'm still pwned. I think I used Spirit.

I have SHSH's for 3.1.3, 4.0, 4.0.1, and 4.0.2.

If you used Spirit, it's not pwned anymore. Follow my instructions with Tinyumbrella to upgrade. Use jailbreakme.com to jb. Afterward, install ultrasnow through Cydia to unlock.
 
Alright.

Last thing, I'm at work so I dont have the modified .hosts file. Can someone just link me to a guide, or tell me what I need to add to my hosts file for the signature check??

Then it might be easier for you to just download tinyumbrella. Is google down again?

Yeah, it wouldn't have been easier or faster to find out for yourself either.
 
But MacRumors pays us to help people here! Especially the ones who can't or won't search. oh and then there is in 1000th time it's been asked bonus! My personal favorite!
