Yeah, I do read the main page, that's why I said it seemed quiet, since the newest news is over 24 hours old and is kind of about Microsoft. Panther's close, I know, but it feels like there's something else as well.

Would Apple just spring it on us? There was a big lead time between Jaguar and the actual release. I have to assume that they'll first announce a date, probably several weeks off - which would put panther about when we expected it.

Is it gonna just be released on Apple's website, just like that? Or will there be some event and some fanfare? I'm looking forward to Panther so much, and I've built it up in my head, just having it suddenly appear on the Apple Store seems kinda weak. How do you guys think its gonna be released?

I like being up on the latest rumors, but I realize that I also like it when Apple pulls a complete surprise on us with a product announcement that wasn't expected at all. Hey, maybe the Newton is coming back.

I agree entirely. I kind of miss the days before I knew about the rumor sites when every announcement from Apple was a complete and utter surprise.

Don't expect any surprises until after January. It's the wrong time of the year.
How 'bout in January? The Macworld San Francisco keynote will be January 5, 2004.

All you'll hear is the continuing success of the music store with the addition of Windows users, G5 sales, and the further adoption of Mac OS X due to Panther, Quark XPress, and other software. ;)

Oh, and one more thing...

...too quiet. Feels like something's coming...

Any guesses as to what? :D

A welcome break from the recent PBook rumor madness. Every 35.34 seconds it was "G5 PBooks next week!!!! 15" being cancelled!!! Size reduction in 12"!! Dual G4 17"! New PBook with quad G5s with the new 30" LCD display for a screen!!!"

ya... it was 20 years ago... 1984, still gonna be huge

Geesh, was I way off!

Sorry... let's see now....
We've already had a Twentieth Anniversary Macintosh...in 1997 Apple sold that beauty to celebrate 20 years in the computer business (if you count 1977 for the debut of the Apple II...the Apple I was 1976, but not mass produced)

1977-1997 = 20 years of Apple
1984-2004 = 20 years of Macintosh

There...that's better!

Now, I didn't hear this (again) but I would say a 30 inch LCD monitor along with upgraded G3 iBooks.

30 inch LCD? think of the price

since th 17" is 699 -- 20" is 1299 -- 23" is 1999

so by that pattern, a 26 inch would cost around 2800 and a 29 or 30 would be around 3500 to 3700... who could afford that? custom made orders maybe, definatly not something you would see in stock.

Just a thought though i don't mean to critisize

but it's gotta be Panther as the next big thing and/or iBooks

Although i could see them sticking the G5 in an Xserve next...
