I just thought I'd share my experience activating my new iPhone last night. I've been a Mac user since the days of the SE. I've seen every system update since 6.1, weathered the 680X0 to PowerPC to Intel processor transitions, been using OS X daily since 10.1 (even waited at the Tice's Corner Apple Store for the midnight release of Jaguar), and have had a .Mac e-mail address since the days of iTools.
So, you could say I've got Mac running in my blood...
I've always enjoyed the hassle-free updates and upgrades since OS X. When I put my G4 into semi-retirement after getting my Mac Book Pro, it transferred my data quickly and easily, and I could pick up on the new machine almost where I left off on the old.
I've also had hassles along the way. I used a Palm for a long time, but the sync was never really great, and I could never get groups or categories for calendar items or contacts to work right. I even had a Newton, which was a lot of fun, but ultimately the Palm was easier to carry around and sync (gotta love the dock...). More recently, my Bluetooth cell phones have been anything but easy to sync with my Macs.
The iPhone is the antithesis of all that.
I got home with my new toy last night, set up the dock, and placed the phone in it. The registration was very easy, the setup simple. The first sync got all my mail info, my calendars and contacts onto the iPhone with no hassles. And when I plucked the iPhone from to dock, and checked mail, it was just so easy! No problems with passwords or anything. It just worked!
I then set up the playlists, etc for it to sync from iTunes and iPhoto. Really neat, though I do wish they still used FireWire!
Playing with it on the way to work (I ride in a van pool) it was east to see that the 3G coverage is better along the highways than off. but that isn't the iPhone's fault.
Mind you, I'm still learning a lot about the phone. But so far, my user experience has been wonderful.
Anyway, just wanted to share this, and if anyone else would like to share their user experiences with their new iPhones, don't hesitate to reply!
