I updated to 10.6.5 as well as itunes 10.1. The previous version of itunes 10 there was a simple hack that allowed you to revert the icons from the drab gray to color, ala itunes 9. That hack apparently works with 10.1, however when I am playing a song the speaker icon is messed up as well as the drop down to the right of the title.

Is there a fix for this? Searched a few pages in the forum and haven't found an answer, but I could have swore I saw a similar post after 10.1 was launched.

Second question... the airplay icon won't show up in the bottom right corner of itunes unless I have something set up for airplay, correct? As I don't currently have an ATV, airport express, or 4.2 IOS, the icon is not appearing. Wanted to confirm that I wasn't missing something.

thanks!

so all these people that didn't like the gray icons when itunes 10 came out have A) decided they like the gray icons with 10.1 or B) haven't upgraded to 10.1?

No one else has this problem and/or a fix?

why would I need to remove itunes completely? I'm not sure what you're getting at.
I can return the stock gray icons at anytime and they show up normally. Again, in itunes 10, this hack worked fine. There are a ton of tutorials around explaining it. Perhaps you're not understanding what I'm saying.

try removing iTunes completely. click here and follow the instructions. then reinstall it using the standalone installer from here: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/.

note this will not touch your media files, playlists, ratings, etc.

next, don't mess with/modify the resource files for the iTunes icons.

okay.... so if I delete and reinstall itunes 10.1 fresh, then what? I'm left with stock gray icons, correct? As I stated, I still have the original stock file saved and can put the gray icons back in place at which point the play errors which I pictured above disappear (no need to delete/reinstall itunes to do this, just change the rsrc file in package contents).
That's not the point of the post. In itunes 10 this hack did not have those problems. The question is.... how can you correct it in itunes 10.1? Again, it doesn't appear as though you understand what I'm saying. All you're telling me to do is to uninstall/reinstall. That doesn't fix anything.
In case you still don't get it, here's the hack I'm referring to: http://osxdaily.com/2010/09/03/get-color-icons-back-in-the-itunes-10-sidebar/

oh, i do.

but i can't help you with fixing a mucked up (as in modified) iTunes installation - other than removing and re-installing as per my suggestion.

well, good luck to you !

Yet another 10.1 color icon option

Suggested link above appears broken. Try http://macthemes.net/forum/viewtopic.php?id=16805797 -- which points to http://erambert.me/itunes-109/

I am about to try this, so I can't assert it works. However, replacing the resources in iTunes 10 worked perfectly. There may be a firewall-related problem for connections to iTunes because of the altered app; I had no trouble.

BTW, I really wish the Jolly Giant "I won't help you, sneer" folks would keep it to themselves. If hacks scare you, fine, don't do them.

Just tried it, and it works fine. Had to drag the iTunes icon off the dock (poof!) and redrag it to the dock to see the new (old) icon.
Also, on the page linked http://erambert.me/itunes-109/ the download button is not really obvious, it is the black and white Apple face on the right.
Many thanks to Mr. Erambert!
