as title says, Im having issues with iTunes "losing" network conn. even though I can access mail and websites.

This happened after the latest version (10.5) - as far as I can remember.

I tried closing/reopening itunes, which seemed to work, but it still happens and its a drag to having to close/open an app every time you wanna use it.

Any ideas to solving the problem?
 
I believe you have found a bug in iTunes. I have encountered other iTunes 10.5 bugs myself... and this one, too. Annoying.
