iTunes 12.2.0 locking up

Since I upgraded my mac mini to the latest Yosemite version which includes iTunes 12.2.0 the application locks up continuously I have a large external storage of 3.3 TB which holds my iTunes library. Every time it locks up I force quit it but am unable to restart it unless I reboot the computer. This has to be done by manually shutting down the computer
