I was reading up on the new iTunes 4.7 (http://www.apple.com/itunes/hottips/) and some of the features are pretty cool, like smart playlists. But the advertise a feature called joining tracks, does that only work when you're importing a new CD, or can i join already imported tracks. If so how do i do that, because mine's greyed out when i select the tracks.

Also what does Consolidate library apply to? if anyone knows.

"Join CD Tracks" only works when you're importing, before you've done the import.

1. Insert an audio CD in your computer. After a moment, the songs on the CD are listed in the iTunes window.

2. Click to remove the checkmark next to any songs you don't want to import into your library.

3. If you want to remove the gap of silence that normally occurs between songs, select two or more adjacent songs and choose Advanced > Join CD Tracks.

iTunes imports any joined songs as one track. To change back to importing the songs separately, select the joined songs and choose Advanced > Unjoin CD Tracks.

4. Click the Import button to add the selected songs to your library.

The display area at the top of the iTunes window shows how much time it will take to import each song. To cancel import, click the small X next to the progress bar.

"Consolidate Library" copies - not moves - songs to your iTunes music folder from wherever they might be currently. Repeat: it doesn't move them, it copies them (thus doubling disk space used by the songs)....
