itunes 6 freezes

Hey people, I had iTunes 6 downloading podcasts and I got the spinning beachball of death and I have to force quit iTunes, but when I open iTunes again it still beachballs in the process of adjusting the volume of the TWIT podcast. What can I do to fix this? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
