Hi everyone,
For the past few days, I've been unable to open iTunes. After clicking the icon, the iTunes menubar appears but nothing else (no iTunes window). I get the beachball when I mouse over the menubar. To make matters worse, I can't Quit or Force Quit the app after it's started. The only way to get rid of it is to kill the process in Terminal or reboot.

Here are the things I've tried so far:
  • Deleting plist files
  • Reinstalling (after trashing the receipts)
  • Reparing Disk Permissions
  • Repairing Disk
  • Temporarily moving the iTunes folder and attempting to have it start from scratch
Finally, I created a new account and attempted to open iTunes there but the same thing happened.

So right now I'm at a loss. Does anyone have any ideas on what I might try? Thanks in advance.

I had same issue after update, turned out to be a shareware sound enhancer that was incompatible with 7.0.2... Uninstalled the shareware, and presto!:)

Hi guys,
I did try unplugging my iPod and deleting the one plugin I had (some sort of Album Art fetcher from before iTunes automatically got it) but it was still not working.

Then, last night, I tried deleting the preferences again and, lo and behold, it worked. I'm not sure what I did differently this time but it likely had something to do with that plugin. Thanks everyone :)

Ah, it was my iPod shuffle. I'd forgotten it was sitting in its dock off to the side and didn't try unplugging it until last night, apparently. With it unplugged, iTunes starts right up :)

Ya, I am having same problem... when i boot mac osx with shuffle plugged in itunes takes 1+ minute to start.... and won't recognize shuffle... but if i start up without shuffle plugged in itunes starts fast, recognizes shuffle as soon as i plug it in... no problem.....glad it's solved.. but what if i want to leave the shuffle connected while booting? any solution... is this a bug we can hope for a patch/update for?

thanks

ted
