iTunes 7.7 plays some WAVs with distortion

EDIT: 7.6.2 is affected, so the problem started some time ago.

I've got some WAVs that used to play in iTunes, but it appears with 7.7 they no longer play correctly. They play in QuickTime (as DVI ADPCM), but iTunes shows them as DVI IMA, and they play with a distortion that sounds like ping-ponging back and forth between left & right speakers.

Other plain WAVs work fine.

Is this noticed by any one else?
