iTunes 8.1 not allowing info edit.

When I try to edit information for a movie on itunes 8.1, it's getting stuck in a strange limbo stage. Nothing on itunes can be clicked on and I have to force quit. It just started happening as soon as I DL'd the new version today. Sorry if this is an old topic, but any help in the right direction or even a confirmation that this is common would be excellent. does it hang after you hit "OK"? how long are you waiting before you force quit? I have all of my media on an external, and i've notice that sometimes when updating info on larger files (like movies) in itunes, it can hang for quite a bit (beach ball), but it eventually goes through.

some go real quick, like a few seconds, but some can take a couple of minutes to register . . . i think that it is because i am using an external drive.
does this sound like what is happening ?
