iTunes 8.1 sync problems

Hello all-

I have an iPhone 2G running 2.2.1 and recently upgraded to iTunes 8.1.

Since I upgraded iTunes, the iPhone has been having problems syncing. When I attach it, the program doesn't respond and beach balls for a while. Eventually it recognizes the phone, but only after a few minutes beach balling. WTF?

Is anyone else having this problem? I re-installed iTunes to no avail.

Damnit.
