iTunes 8 and iPhone recognition issue...

I have an iPhone 3G and downloaded iTunes 8 and now the phone isn't being recognized by the computer. The phone acknowledges that it is charging, but it doesn't go into the sync mode. Is this an issue with the phone or the iTunes software??? Is there anything that I can do to fix this??????? Thanks in advance for your help.

first thing i would do...is fully uninstall itunes, reboot and reinstall 8.

Call Apple, as they will walk you through everything you need to do.

Same thing is happening to me but when I press sync it goes into a never-ending backup

Thank you all for your prompt responses. Luckily, I was able to fix the issue by reinstalling the iTunes 8 software. Everything is running smoothly now. Thanks again for your help.
