Just got an update iTunes 9.0.1. Among the fixes is an undocumented one where they returned the old behavior of the green button to its previous functionality of minimizing into the mini player. With the introduction of 9, they had programmed this button to be much like all of the other apps, and you had to hold alt and then click to minimize into the miniplayer.
I for one am happy about this.
