iTunes account is not eligible to purchase gifts

Hello,

I am trying to buy an iTunes Gift Card through iTunes, as I have done countless times in the past. However, when I accept the payment, the following error pops up:

"This account is not currently eligible to purchase gift certificates.

You can purchase iTunes Gift Cards from a variety of retail locations"

Now, no retail location will do the trick for me (I live in Brazil), and I truly use this service a lot. Furthermore, the problem is not with my credit card, as I can buy any song, video or app from the Store.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
