iTunes: Adding purchased music back to "Purchased?"

I've noticed that once an item purchased from iTunes in removed from your library, it won't show back up under the "Purchased" heading if added back to iTunes. Does anyone know of a way to put purchased music and videos back into the "Purchased" playlist? I would have thought iTunes would have automatically done this with any file with a .m4p extension or iTunes Store metadata, but this doesn't seem to be the case.
