iTunes and App Stores Suffering Outage [Update: Fixed]

The iTunes Store, App Store, Apple Books, and the Mac App Store are experiencing an outage, according to Apple's System Status page.

Some customers may be unable to make purchases, which is in line with reports about downtime on Twitter. We've also heard complaints about Apple Music and other services, though Apple isn't listing problems outside of the App Stores.

Apple's developer website confirms that TestFlight and App Store Connect are affected as well, so developers and testers may be unable to use these services at the current time.

The outage has been ongoing since 1:40 a.m. Pacific Time, and it's not clear how many customers are affected. We don't know when the issues will be fixed, but we'll update this post when all services are up and running.

Update: According to Apple's System Status page, the issues affecting the App Store, Mac App Store, iTunes, TestFlight and App Store Connect have been resolved.

It went further than the US; iCloud Germany was pestering me to update my Credit Card Details, but when I tried I got everything from "This is not useable in Germany" to Your Details could not be accessed, try later". This went on from this Morning to just a few minutes ago. I also put in three requests to talk to a rep. with supposedly a two minute wait time, not one call back!

A big tech company like apple knows about redundancy. I'm guessing some accountant said no.

My post was a (dumb) joke and less than half-serious, but come on, Apple is historically mediocre-to-okay with services, which is fine when you're not able to download an album or stream a movie. If they keep having weird, unexplained outages like this, they're gonna have a hard time convincing the world that they're the kind of preeminent services company we should trust with all of our digital lives.

Wasn’t just Apple, Amazon was having problems also. Most likely a Amazon web services issue that Apple uses. Oh wait Apple sucks for the goths here

This is why we need to have an app management app on Mac OS so that we don’t need to re-download everything from the servers when restoring a phone or getting a new phone.
Just plug it in to the computer and load all the apps. Done!

You can have all the redundancy in the world and it can still fail. You probably never worked in infrastructure, nor software development.

A whole data center can go down
A whole cloud provider can go down
Nothing is down but you have a software bug in your infrastructure as code that made communication unavailable between some servers
Someone accidentally did some action that took something down
Your software has a bug that makes it crash
I could continue all day

In fact distributed systems and geodistributed infrastructures, with multiple data centres, multiple locations, and multiple cloud providers, are way more complex systems.

**** happens. No company has 100% uptime, not even google, nor Amazon.

Thanks. Last night I was having issues with slow downloads. 17 apps took over 2 hours to update on a gigabit connection where I tend to have 350mbps down on WiFi and my Speedtest was testing around there during this time

yep the joke was on the lame side, but I've made far worse!.. but eh, I think you got hit by the backlash of those of us that remember when MacRumors used to be a supportive, encouraging community. Not saying you aren't, just saying some of us are tired of the trolls that cant get over themselves.

I agree with your assessment of mediocre to lame of some past services (first iterations of iCloud), but really when one thinks of all they do now seamlessly, like serving up all that content in iTunes... maybe their front ends could user some work, but I rarely if ever have trouble with their actual services being delivered. Nothing is 100% perfect, but do I enjoy living in this world more than the one of 20 years ago (in terms of Apple services)? Heck yes.
