Don't laugh at me, but I have a large DVD collection. I was trying to find a way to transfer most of them into iTunes, and Google wasn't really being too helpful.

Can you be more helpful than Google?

You need to convert them to video first. Handbrake on a Mac is a good tool for this. Choose a format that iTunes can import. Be aware it may take a few hours or days depending on the speed of your computer. Then just import the video into iTunes.
 
I've gone the two step process with blu-rays, makeMKV and then handbrake. Not sure if handbrake decodes DVDs (wont decode blu-rays).
 
Vudu dvd to digital. DVDs and a lot of them it will prob be cheap $1? To get a digital copy W good quality and accessible everywhere.
