itunes and external harddrive

forgive me if this is a dumb question. im not very good at these things, but i want to have itunes on my seagate central external hard drive. this way i dont have to constantly delete movies or music to get everything to fit. i would like to have just a massive movie selection but all on the external harddrive since i just got a 2tb hd. but what are the steps to do this? also, ive got it setup as a time machine right now. so i guess it would delete itunes from my macbook and keep it all organized on the exernal hd. oh and i still NEED my appletv to recognize the external hd and allow me to play the movies through it on my tv.
