iTunes and Fire now crash on load

After installing the latest security update (not sure if this is just a coincidence) both iTunes and Fire both crash on loading with this error message - 'The application iTunes/Fire has unexpectedly quit'.

Does anyone know what the cause of this might be?

I'm running 10.3.5 on a G3 iBook.

First, repair your permissions from /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.
Check you apps. If no luck:

Go to ~/library/preferences/ and find com.apple.iTunes.plist
Rename it to com.apple.oldiTunes.plist
Launch iTunes, it will ask to create some new settings, you can try cancelling or resetting your settings.
If this fixes your itunes problem you don't need to do any more.

Go to the fire website and follow their crash reporting procedures.

You may also be able to find the Fire preference in your preferences folder and follow a similar procedure to the above method.

You could also perform a a 'safe boot' or run disk-utility off your installer CD, to ick up any other problems.

I followed your suggestions, and it didn't fix the problem.. but you pointed me in the right direction.

I got frustrated and moved everything in ~Library/ to a temporary directory - this did the trick.

Not sure exactly which file was the culprit though..
