itunes and iphone number of photos

Can somebody help me figure out why I have such a big discrepancy between the number of photos on my iphone and the number of photos iTunes claims are on my iPhone?

When I open camera roll on my iPhone, I have 11 photos. When I open itunes, my sync bar is claiming I have 171 photos, taking up 1.29GB of space.

I really need to get this space back since I made the boneheaded decision to go with a 16GB iPhone.

In iTunes you can select to sync all or selected folders from your computer. The 11 maybe the number taken on your phone and the other number may be the ones synced. You can selectively sync (or do none) by changing the iTunes settings.
