I have Final Cut Express 2. I bought songs from iTunes, but when I imported them into FCE, it said "Error: Unknown File." So then I attempted to convert to mp3, and iTunes said "cannot convert a protected file." I tried to unprotect, change extension, everything. Any help around this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

You can't remove the protection from within iTunes or any other "official" method. You can burn it to a CD and then rip it to iTunes (using a CDRW) as an mp3.

There are also programs out there that can remove the protection of the AAC files... I suggest you look in MacUpdate for them.

I'm a little surprised that FCE can't import iTMS songs. DVD Studio Pro can, and IIRC, so can iMovie and iDVD, so I had assumed Apple's other video apps would be able to too.

FCE can't import any uncompressed formats - not even MP3 or unprotected AAC. So it makes a lot of sense it can't import music store tunes (although I admit it's inconvenient).
