iTunes and VLC have been skipping recently

This hasn't always happened, but recently I've noticed a lot of skipping in iTunes with wav files and with VLC hi-def videos. I can, however, run Ableton and Reason together perfectly fine with no skipping.

Any suggestions? Thanks!
