Hi all,
Here's what my current setup contains, for my girlfriend and myself:
2x Macbooks
2x iPhones
1x AEBS
1x Apple TV on order
My netgear router stopped working the other day, so I made the argument to upgrade to the AEBS. The USB port is becoming very tempting, and I want to see if what I envision in my head is actually possible. I want to get an external hard drive, put an iTunes library on there, and have it so both my girlfriend and I have read write access. As we both have iphones, would it be best to create a whole new library where we can put all our music, and keep our own on the Macbooks? The external would also be used for file backups, movie storage... in general extra space mainly for media. Will the USB/wireless connection be quick enough? I don't think I need to get a NAS drive, but would love to hear experiences from people who have. In any event:
Ideally, I want to be able to walk into my apartment, flick on the remote app, and play whatever song I want through my house. I want to be able to access my songs, and my g/fs, without having to switch itunes libraries... which is why I'd like them consolidated together.
When the apple tv arrives, I'll set that up in the living attached to the main home theater system. Then I'd be able to play music through it as mentioned above... right? Additionally, if I store apple tv compatible movies on the external, it would be able to stream to the atv as well?
Appreciate any help or direction from those who can offer, or maybe who have networked their house similarly. I don't want to mess anything up, and don't even know if this is possible. Thanks!
