A friend of mine purchased a new iMac (alum) to replace his current CoreDuo (white) model.

Right around the same time, he decided to take his white iMac in the fix a problem in the screen, which was covered by AppleCare.

Upon bring the alum home, we transferred all the data and took the white one in.

We then tried to sync his iPod. No dice, as the computer would ask for authorization, accept it and then ask for it again. Over and over and over, with nary an error message. Thinking there was some problem with deauthorizing the old machine, I ran to the apple store, hooked up the white and deauthorized.

Went back to the new computer...nothing. Same thing again. Accepts the password, authorizes and upon playing, asks to auth again.

I email iTunes support and my buddy leaves for his summer home in La Jolla (I'm in Phoenix). Every day I stop by his house to try and sync his iPod and every day I can't. The white is still in the shop, so no luck there. Now, this guy is 87 years old. He goes on walks every day with his iPod. He purchases audiobooks exclusively from the store (around $500ish a year).

Two weeks go by as level 2 iTunes support and I go back and forth. She says a fix is coming, I say it's not working.

White comes back from the shop. I sync his iPod up with his white and send the iPod to him.

He STILL can't access his legally purchased music from his computer, meaning he can't update his iPod until he can.

iTunes has offered me 20 song credits as a sorry. Seeing as to how my buddy only buys audiobooks, this does him no good. She then offers two audiobooks. I say this is too little for what is over a MONTH now without access to his books.

What do you think he should ask for? How ridiculous is this?
