I have a new 128GB Macbook Air. I bought the small one because when it's docked, all of my music and photos will be on a connected external drive. My iPhone backup would eat 100%+ of my whole system drive for just one backup, but it doesn't seem like there is an easy way to move the location of the iphone backup in iTunes. I've seen a few people selling $50 software that claims to do it, and I've seen a few terminal commands that are supposed to do it, but the commands don't seem to work. Is it possible to do this? I'm using MacOS 10.14.5

I figured it out using a combination of this URL to find the location (since I didn't actually have any completed backups)
https://reincubate.com/support/how-to/change-itunes-backup-location/

And this URL to do the symbolic link
https://www.imore.com/how-move-your-iphone-or-ipad-backups-external-hard-drive

Since I wanted to move the entire backup folder, I had to copy it to my external drive (which is called Data Drive), then I deleted the Backup folder on the system drive, and I issued this command:

ln -s /Volumes/Data\ Drive/Backup ~/Library/Application\ Support/MobileSync/

that created a link to the Backup folder in my MobileSync folder. Now my backup go to the external drive.
