I have the Apple official lightning to HDMI adapter.

I’ve downloaded a movie on Netflix and it output to the TV fine.

Played a video on Amazon prime and only showed the splash screen on the TV, but the video just played on my iPhone/iPad.

Tried a google play movie downloaded to iOS device, it said “the connected display is not authorised to play the protected movie”

Tried a few bought iTunes movies, downloaded not streamed, and also said “the connected display is not authorised to play the protected movie”

I thought I could play movies/TV using the Apple HDMI adapter? Sure I did a few years ago? Has this changed now?

Anyone have an Apple HDMI Lightning adapter to try please

Thanks

I'm guessing the adapter is HDCP compliant but the TV has some issue and it can't be authenticated as a secure device. I've had a few TVs and monitors not support HDCP (properly) and as a result I couldn't play protected content on them.

Ah so it’s the specific TV at fault? So in general older TVs probably won’t work? That’s bad, was hoping for this solution for travelling and watching movies etc on a big screen.

Why does Netflix work on this TV whereas, other apps don’t? Why would Netflix not use HDCP?

No way around this then, as I wouldn’t know if the TV works until try it in hotel etc

Thanks

You could test it with a newer computer display that has an HDMI port. Usually those work unless the vendor wasn't paying attention to HDCP compliance.

I’ll try it with another TV in the house, but was hoping, the whole point of it really, was to use in hotels, on holiday etc so can watch on a big screen. Some of these are often cheap TVs and old, so maybe they won’t work either.

Could it be the HDMI cable?
*edit* tried an HDMI 2.1 48Gbps cable and same result. So must be the TV?

Well, this is what I’m experiencing. Since the new update to iOS 16 on the Apple phone, I am not able to play any thing from my FiOS app, this includes TV, shows, movies, etc. etc. Also, no prime movies, just shows the picture kind of slow motion and no sound, also, even on Tubi, so movies don’t play. I have a smart TV in my tractor trailer, I use the Apple adapter with the HMMI, cable I have always for years from able to do this, but no one has been able to solve this problem, either FIOS tax or Apple tax. Can anybody help me, I feel your pain and this is probably what you’re going through also , I read something about iTunes buying the rights to movies or something, and maybe that’s why it’s not working. But I’m telling you, right after I did that first iOS 16 update, it stopped working.

Could be the TV, could be the HDMI cord. I’ve given up on dealing with cords & adapters, I put an Apple TV on the set & use AirPlay.
