Hi.

I'm running a 2012 Mac Pro and use iTunes for movie rentals. This was working fine up until a couple of days ago when iTunes started refusing to play the movies...just a black screen...perhaps a movie time line but no image or sound.

So, I decided to see if I could find the same movie i'm trying to watch in Apple TV The replacement for iTunes). I can't find any movies on Apple TV other than their own productions and some other stuff. If I Goggle search "aguirre wrath of god" or "Fantastic Beast" or "Die Hard" & "apple tv" I get a link to the movie on Apple TV...but that is a promo to view it on iTunes (possibly because it knows I don't have Apple TV) BUT if I search the sam movies directly in Apple TV page (https://tv.apple.com/ca) I get nothing.

my question is: when I move to a more modern OSX, how do I rent the above movies with Apple TV on my computer to watch on my computer (not a smart TV).

Thanks,

You use the Apple TV app. Screenshot of Die Hard found via search in the Apple TV app. Click "Store" on left to browse Movies and TV Shows to buy or rent.

Interesting, The Apple TV app that is built into OSX 10.15 is different from the apple TV site. The web site only offers Apple content with a subscription but (I'm assuming) the built-in app is a replacement for iTunes (movie section) and I can just login as usual and rent what I like.

Question: Does the $9.99 monthly subscription only gets you access to TV shows and apple content...not theatre release movies, correct? I still have to rent those?!?

The app is called "TV" on macOS/iOS/iPadOS. It offers the good old iTunes Store, that offers movies rents and purchases, and some additional streaming services like Apple TV+, Paramount+, Minerva Pictures, etc…

The $9.99 Apple TV+ subscription is only for the Apple TV+ contents.
